This week this video has been floating around social media, it’s from Soul Pancake. I had been ignoring it until about five minutes ago.

The kid makes some good points, my favorite I think is “what will your Space Jam be?” and “Don’t stop believing… Unless your dream is stupid.. then get a new dream.” The video is cute and makes you want to be a part of something awesome. A friend of mine is starting something awesome on the South Side of Chicago called Good Things Grow Midway The group strives to build community through art, ecology, community and action. They are just getting started but it is sure to be awesome and I can’t wait to help in  any way I can.

On another note I am in the process of backing this beautiful hand embroidered quilt my sister got me from Thailand. The process has been interesting since currently I am washing it before I start the actual backing. It started like this …

This week I have been working to get part of my backyard ready to build a raised bed garden, in hopes of avoiding the disaster of last years gardening. I had planed some veggies, taters and a few others… well my landlord “cleaned up” the backyard which really meant he mowed all the plants down and ripped everything up from my garden. It was too late in the season to start over. So this year I was inspired by this pin I found.

Sample Square Foot Garden

Through some research in Square Foot Gardening and some advice from Julie of the South Side Horties I have started the painstaking process of prepping to build the actual garden box. Our back yard has been overgrown for some time.

While digging up all the unwanted plants ( I relocated some of them) I found scads of pearl onions!

Pearl Onions!!!

We will be building the box this week, weather permitting of course! I am so excited to get my hands dirty and finally get a garden growing in our back yard!
